Your favourite beach ...
"Life is a matter of finding the right beach ..."
On this page, we feature your nominations for your favourite beach. Everyone's favourite beach will be different, of course. And maybe you wish to keep yours secret. But send us a pic anyway, with a few words. No need to tell us where it is, if you really don't want us to know. But share the majesty with your fellow ocean swimmers.

Target of boardies, visitors, and F111s

chinamansbeachmacleay
Few people outside the far north coast of NSW have heard of Chinamans Beach, about 3km south of the township of Evans Head, about 30km south of Ballina.

The beach is within Bundjalung National Park, and an RAAF bombing range borders to the immediate south although the actual firing range is about 10km farther away.

Fortunately, live bombs and ammuniton haven't been dropped for about 35 years, but F111s from Amberley in Queensland still pass by, usually well out to sea.

The beach is unpatrolled but is a haven for local surfers and visitors alike and is the home of the Half Tide Board Riders' Club.

Ocean Swimmer Edward Donovan, reporting for duty, Sa!

Pleased to report on satisfacory personal result round Wedding Cake Is., quicker than expected at B2B (d'uh) and after Christmas felt heavy at Yamba like the conditions.

Can also report on satisfactory transferrence of intel with Col (Oh, might've been Ron, as in Gaolbreak Swim organiser (?) in SLSA garb, said you guys holidayed with him when in SWR...) on Main Beach at SWR, following journeyperson splash between main and Horseshoe and back. (Around the back of stingray is always cool.)

Anyway, still in SWR, swam back to town from 'Catamaran Hire', kind of more directly at the surf club than usual, as my dad walked along the beach (I'm 38). Got about half way and thought 'Gee, I'm a long way off the beach, but it's ok, Dad's keeping an eye on me.'

Really good swim, saw the bottom nearly all of the way. Pressed on.

Back on the beach, met Dad who said "...not sure if was my eye sight, but I lost track of you there for a while. You were a long way out."

Hmmm....

Might swim a bit more of an arc next time. Hopefully March 1.

Here's a couple from Horseshoe, South West Rocks. Not a bad beach.

North Bondi Roughy's my next.

Yours in the Ocean. love and appreciate your work.

Tempe, NSW,

Oceanswimmer for fun, fitness & club support, not profit.
(Coughed up for the Cole early, though 'cause I love those big events... but still wonder what is going on with that.
Oh, I'm a city2surf walker, too. Harumph...
...I wish life was simpler :-') )

My favourite beach? It’s not a "secret" location but it is possibly a beach whose beauty is taken for granted. Manly, magnificent Manly, especially at sunrise!

Photo taken on Mother’s Day 2008.

Majesty of the sou'-west ...
webdog ocean beach
Breathtaking ... that's the only word to describe these images, sent in by WA tragic Greg 'Webdog" Smith, of Lowlands beach near Denmark, in the far south of Western Australia. Webdog says: "Just two pics from our sojourn to Denmark ... There was one lone ocean swimmer at the main Beach, Ocean Beach, about 800m off shore. Water temp was 20. He had to swim there, as there is no pool in Denmark ... I had one of the best surfs ever at Lowlands.

"This is my favourite beach of all time."

Above is Parrys Beach, also way down south, where the white pointers roam, in Webdog's attempt to outdo Glistening Dave.

And at right, Webdog took this pic a few years back of his son, Ant, who'd just had a brain tumour removed at the time. This was Ant's first surf back after his operation, at Scarborough, in Perth.
