| Event |
3 Points Challenge, North Curl Curl - Aquathon (400m swim + 1500m run + 300m swim + 1500m run + 200m swim + 3.5 km run), and/or 2 km ocean swim and Invitational Skins
You can do either event or both.
The top 6 finishers outright in each event will be invited to take part in the Invitational Skins - Dash for Cash |

The 3 Points Challenge course map: Check out the pic below, left, for how we actually went on the day last season.

There are some very fierce competitors who take part in the 3 Points Challenge, and some not so fierce. This one (above) went around the course chanting: "Merryn makes me strong .... Merryn makes me strong ...." We never did find out whether "Merryn" was a mysterious woman, or a brand of vitamin. Never mind, we were grateful that the charismatic Killer, of Tweed River fame, consented to wear our advertising for this event last season. Didn't charge much, either.

Fragrant punter.

One of the lads on "risk management". Jet skis, like rubber duckies before them, have opened up a whole new world in surf lifesaving to different types of people.

| Course |
Aquathon - a series of short swims interspersed by runs from North Curl Curl to South Curl Curl then on to Freshwater (Harbord) beach, then run back to North Curl Curl.
Swim - not quite a circuit inside Curl Curl bay, but up and back, anti-clockwise.
Invitational Skins - 75m swim + 20m run x 6 |
| Conditions |
Aquathon - runs are along roadways, some pathways to and from beaches, and some along soft sand. Swims are through the break at North Curl Curl, through the break at South Curl Curl, and through the break at Freshwater. South Curl Curl can be, as they say, challenging. North Curl Curl is open to the south east, but generally is easier than the south end. Freshwater is relatively easy, as a rule.
Swim - start and finish at North Curl Curl, through a break that can be challenging, depending upon conditions. Course to sea can be challenging if bumpy. You'll know you're in the ocean off Curly on a tempestuous day. |
| Years run, Starters last time |
Event has run three years previously, but this is just the second year that it seeks to attract the general community of aquathletes and mug punters. Last year, 104 in the swim, 242 in the biathlon. |
| Prizes |
Over $10,000 in cash and prizes.
Invitational Skins - top six competitors in each event (Aquathon and Ocean Swim)
Entry fee “includes race t-shirt”, product samples, entry pack, 3 Day Work Out Pass– Definition Health Clubs, complimentary drink & sausage sandwich at presentation BBQ. |
 |
The punters head out through the break at the 3 Points Challenge last season. Note the perfect position of the North Curly surf club, from where a grand view, indeed, can be had of the course and all the mugs traversing it. Some of these characters (at left) were so keen, they forgot to take off all their clobber before entering the water. |

Our course over last season's 3 Points Challenge: Red marks the swim course, yellow the aquathlon. Ignore the aquathlon course that runs off up the hill. We just forgot to turn off our GPS-in-a-prophylactic. You needn't do the course the way we did it, either. We swim wayward. Your swim could be much more economical. |

Fancy yourself as a bit of an iron person? As well as an ocean swimmer? Or are you content to swim, leaving the swim-run odyssey for the boofheads?
Well, this one's for you. This is a very interesting, not to mention challenging event, if you do the aquathon. North Curly have run this event in a smaller way for the past couple of years, but this year, for the second season, they're opening it to the public and making it a good, fun day.
Judging by last season's experience, they try very hard to make us all welcome.
It's a Saturday event, too. It's nice to have some of those. |

Last season's 3 Points Challenge included world-ranked swimmers, and others.

Glistening Dave was out and about at North Curly last season. That's why the skies are so glum and gloomy. He carries that mood with him wherever he goes. It's his signature atmosphere. We did wonder, though, what all this lot found out there in the sea that made them all just turn around and come back in again, en masse. |
