Sunday, Jan 6, 7am - Race organisers have met with Waverley Council Lifeguards to review conditions and the swim is ON.
Organisers say, "Seas are moderate and we expect a fantastic Roughwater". |
North Bondi is a colourful place. Full of celebrities, and eccentrics. Such as people who put their cossies on back to front.

| Course |
M-shaped course inside Bondi bay. Start and finish at North Bondi SLSC, out to sea past Ben Buckler, in towards the centre of Bondi beach, out towards Mackenzies Point, in towards the Icebergs, then north behind the break back to North Bondi. |
| Conditions |
The start and finish are in relatively protected corner of North Bondi, which can take a wave if conditions are particularly difficult. It's a much more even break here, though. Don't forget the runout as a means of getting out through the break quickly. Once out past Ben Buckler, conditions can be very bumpy. Swell usually peaks in mid-beach at Bondi, so follow the set course well and don't come in too close to the break, just in case a rogue wave comes through. |

| Preferred Wave |
The Roughwater swim will offer a Preferred wave for faster swimmers of any age group. Eligibility will be determined using oceanswims.com Order of Merit. If you aren't listed on the Order of Merit but would like to be considered for this wave, please email us (click here) with information to support your application. Participants in the Preferred Wave will still be eligible for prizes in their age groups.
To enter the Preferred Wave, please check in on race day at your Age Group table, note your race number, then visit the Preferred Wave table to enter this wave. NB: You will need to quote your race number at the Preferred Wave table. |

Entrants are restricted to persons who have adequately trained for this event. Entry is at the discretion of the race
committee. Minimum age of 13 years to compete. |

| Teams |
Team Entry (4 swimmers per team): All members of a team must enter as individuals, and will thus be eligible for individual prizes. Teams must also submit a separate entry form with the team’s name, and 4 team members names listed.
Teams may comprise male and female swimmers. All members of a team must finish. A maximum of 1 Preferred Wave swimmer per team. Once team members have entered as individuals, the Team Manager must complete the Team Details form.
Open or Junior (all Junior team members must be 18 or under). If you wish to enter your team online, please follow this procedure -
- All team members must first enter The Roughwater online as individuals.
- Note your 5-digit Registration id number.
- Team manager must then complete Team Entry form (click here), quoting Registration id number for each team member.
NB: If you don't have Registration id numbers for all members of your team, then your team entry will not be accepted. If some members of your team enter by mail or otherwise than online, then please use the downloadable entry form and enter your team by mail. Team entries close Friday, January 4. There will be no late entries for teams. Teams may include only 1 elite swimmer. |
| Back of the Pack |
This division has been created to allow those swimmers who require flippers, snorkels or flotation/wetsuit clothing to complete the course. This group will start 10 minutes behind the last wave.
They will not be eligible for any age group prizes. |

Enter both The Roughwater (Jan 6) and North Bondi Classic (Feb 10) with Combo entry $50.
Above entry fees are for online entries (close midnight, Friday, January 4) or by mail by Friday, January 4.
After those deadlines, Late entry fee applies ($45 for 19+).
Late entries will be taken at North Bondi SLSC on Saturday, January 5, from 9am to 12 noon.
A maximum of 100 late entries will be taken on race day, in front of North Bondi SLSC, from 7am to 8am.
