Who wouldn't want to swim around this bay? Trial Bay, next to South West Rocks, is a glorious north-facing beach on the NSW North Coast.

We think it's close to paradise.
Course Registration at South West Rocks SLSC. Shuttle provided to start at beach near Trial Bay Gaol.

Course runs along Trial Bay beach to South West Rocks, just behind the break all the way.
Conditions Trial Bay faces north and is very sheltered from adverse southerly conditions. Gentle swell growing slightly larger as swimmers approach the finish. Water is usually very, very clear with plenty of sea life to titlillate the senses as the swim progresses.

If conditions become heavy, the swim can still proceed albeit with a shortened course.

This is a swim out of the box: glorious water, beautiful venue, abundant sea life, and 480 km from care (Sydney care and stress). South West Rocks is one of the great places on the Australian coast. Time for a sea change.
Years run, Starters last time 5th year of revived swim, under tutelage of the legendary Lord Ron of Riverside, Patriarch of the Royle Family.
Categories, Prizes "Normal" age categories from 13 - 60+ (separate Male & Female).

Placegetters receive special certificate. All swimmers receive participation certificate.

The Gaol Break Swim is Race 3 in the Hahn Super Dry Fine Ocean Swimmers Series 2008.

The series is a handicap competition, awarding points for each swim in which you finish.

The handicap system weights your time for age and sex and provides a handicap time which is then used to calculate your points. Points accrue with every swim you do. But you need do just three swims in the series in order to qualify to win, at least one of which must be outside Sydney.

At this stage, other confirmed swims are: Sydney Harbour (Mar 2), Stanwell Park (Mar 30), Tamarama (Apr 13), Forster (Apr 27) and Byron Bay (May 4).

No need to enter. You'll be entered automatically just by doing one of these swims.

Dinner at the Riverside Tavern On Saturday night, come and have dinner with us at a special ocean swimmers dinner at the world famous Riverside Tavern, on the banks of the Macleay River. World famous? Considering oceanswims.com's reach extends around the world, and considering we rave about the place, then we consider the Riverside Tavern to be world famous. It's in a beauteous, riparian location, with a large, glorious deck, very good food, and a wonderful, wonderful atmosphere. It's our favourite pub.

You can book and pay for your two-course dinner on-line when you enter the Gaol Break Swim online. $35.50 per head. If you've already entered and wish to book for dinner, just go through the entry process again and select the dinner option only.

If you wish to book for a non-swimming partner or cobber, then ditto: go through the entry process and just nominate the dinner option.
Swim day breakfast ... at South West Rocks SLSC, where you can also register on race day for the swim. Turn up there early and have a swimmer's breakfast, too.
oceanswims.com says This has become one of our favourite swims on the calendar, not just for the quality of the swim, but for the magnificent location. South West Rocks is one of Australia's coastal gems. Get up there and have a great time. Make sure, when you enter online, that you also book your place for dinner with us at the Riverside Tavern on Saturday evening.

We look forward all season to this swim, and to the Riverside Tavern.

swrocks 06wide05 Yes, yes, we know what you're saying: "Gosh, even Glistening Dave has been to South West Rocks to do the Gaol Break Swim!" And you're right. We commissioned Dave to take part to capture the beauty of this place on celluloid.
