DISTANCE TALLIES 2008/09 |
Fine ocean swimmers, indeed ... |
The end of a long season ... how did we go?
The swimmer with the highest tally of distance swum over the course of season 2008/09 was James "Tacoma Jim" Goins, for the second consecutive year. Tacoma Jim did 92.3 km over 33 swims with an average distance of 2.8km per swim. He becomes our finest ocean swimmer, indeed 2008/09. PErhaps a better title would be, Greatest Ocean Swimming Tragic 2008/09.
Second was Clare Ware from Western Australia, with 86.3km swum over 20 swims at 4.3km, ahead of peripatetic Blue Mountains swimmer, Gabriel Mecs, with 61.6km total, over 22 swims also at 2.8km.
As usual, the leading bunch was dominated by Western Australians, due to the series of 5-10km swims bunged on by WA Swimming, and to the Rottnest Channel Swim.
