44th Mona Vale Ocean Swim

Don Jenkin Memorial Swim

Now two swims at Mona Vale -- 1 km Little Swim at Mona Vale, then 2 km along the beach from the southern end of Mona Vale into Bongin Bongin Bay.

This is a "Family, Friendly Swim", as the organisers style it. The event is named for late Mona Vale club stalwart, Don Jenkin, who helped raise this swim to the standing it has today.

What you need to know...

  • Event - 44th Mona Vale Ocean Swim + The Bongin Bongin Swim
  • Venue - Mona Vale beach
  • Distances - 1 km (Mona Vale to Bongin Bongin Bay), 2 km Mona Vale to Bongin Bongin Bay (Mona Vale basin)
  • Time/Date - TBA, 8:30am race start (1 km), and 10am (2 km)
  • Registration - Race day - From 7:30am at Mona Vale SLSC.
  • Entry fee - 2 km – $40, 1 km – $35, both swims $70
  • Minimum age - 12
  • Online entries close - TBA
  • Under 18 swimmers - Parents/guardians of swimmers aged under 18 must complete the online entry form, not the U18 entrants themselves. They must include their consent to the entry with full name and  phone contact. Just a phone number, a first name, or a number and first name will not do. Entries of U18 swimmers are not complete without this complete parental/guardian consent. Entries without valid parental consent will not be accepted. Entries of U18 swimmers must use the parent's email address, not that of the U18 entrant.
  • Conditions - This swim runs from the southern end of Mona Vale beach along behind the break to Bongin Bongin basin. It poses particular challenges with different breaks at each end of the course. The break at the start can be difficult, with rips, undertoads, gutters and shifting banks. The finish in Bongin Bongin offers a much simpler exit, but potentially with a sharp shore dump. Depending on conditions, it can be a challenge at both ends.
  • Getting there - Drive in a car, or something like that, or catch public transport. Check www.131500.com.au/plan-your-trip/ to work out your trip by public transport
  • Parking and Gear Drop - With the amalgamation of the three local councils along the Northern Beaches, there no longer is free parking at this event. Make sure you park legally, and make sure you feed the meter. Rangers along Sydney's beaches are zealous to the max.
  • Gear transport - Organisers will transport your gear back to Mona Vale whilst you schlepp along the beach behind the break. Secure gear stowage also available at Mona Vale SLSC.
