Chieftain Ocean Swim
A major change for this event: it's reverting to the Turimetta-Warriewood swim course. And it may turn out to be the only formal swim on the Sydney calendar before the end of calencar 2020. With all other scheduled swims either postponed, postponed indefinitely, or cancelled, the Chieftain Challenge may be your only opportunity for a true swim event.
This change also means that the biathlon course between Mona Vale and Warriewood is no more.
The Turimetta-Warriewood swim course is one of the most spectacular on the Sydney calendar. Warriewood attempted it over many years earlier, but only once—by our memory—did they get to run to the actual course: the event often was plagued by difficult seas on swim day. On a couple of other occasions, it ran on a modified course off Warriewood beach, and on still others, it was cancelled outright. Let's hope that the ocean spirits deign to offer up suitable conditions on this occasion. Run from Turimetta beach, on the south side of the headland from Warriewood, then around the head into Warriewood, it truly is a beautiful course, and richly deserves to be regarded as "epic", as the youngsters might say.
Distance is 2km. There is a limit on entrants of 300 in these Covid-19 times.
There is an alternative rectangular course off Warriewood beach if conditions do not allow starts from Turimetta.
Do not arrive late: swimmers will need to walk across the headland to the start after registration.
